See you at EcoFest
EcoFest is a fun family friendly event held at Gladstone’s Tondoon Botanic Gardens each year.
Last year’s EcoFest was a great success and, according to the Observer, attracted over 10,000 people. This level of community involvement and the quality of the stalls was a credit to the Gladstone community.
EcoFest uses interactive activities to promote environmental sustainability. As a result, the Gladstone Industry Leadership Group (GILG) and all our member companies will be there. This includes GILG’s Directors who will take turns to be at the GILG stall.
GILG’s Directors, who are the most senior managers at each of GILG’s member sites, are the industry leaders whose vision led to the establishment of GILG. EcoFest will be a great opportunity for you not only to meet them but also let us know how you think we are going.
My participation in EcoFest is an example of GILG’s fulfilment of our key values of engagement, transparency and accountability. This is because it offers a great chance for us to meet in a relaxed setting and openly discuss any of your industry concerns face to face.
For instance, I am keen to understand how GILG can better communicate with the community. Is this column effective? Are there any topics that you would like raised? Is there other information that you would like shared on our website?
Community concern about the possible health impacts of industry air emissions was a key reason for the establishment of GILG. I am keen to receive your feedback or explain the Observer air quality index or National Pollutant Index data. The Queensland Government’s Health Risk Assessment will be released soon, so I am also very interested in how you would like the results of this report presented to the Gladstone community.
I am also eager to talk about other areas where you think that GILG could strengthen the relationship between industry and the Gladstone community. For instance, what do you think of industry’s contribution to apprentice and other training, social infrastructure, support of community development or environmental improvements?
If you would like to have your say online and don't know how, please click on this link which shows you how to register and make a comment, anonymously if you wish
Whether you want to talk about one of these topics or just drop in for a chat, I look forward to seeing you at EcoFest, cheers, Kurt.
